I was so excited to photograph this couple. However, with the crazy (rainy) weather in DC we ended up having to postpone and reschedule more times than I can count. Luckily we ended up with a gorgeous September evening for photographs. Chris & Allyssa, we cannot wait for your wedding in May! Congrats again to you both.
With a storybook setting at the Oatlands Plantation just outside of Washington, D.C. near Leesburg, VA, we spent the day with Kathryn, Javier and their friends and family. We’re not sure we did justice to the incredible smiles on these two – Kathryn and Javier, you. are. awesome. Both of us photographers found ourselves smiling on the other side of the camera as we captured the infectious happiness between this bride and groom. With a great tent and timely heaters fighting off the autumn evening chill, this group kept the energy up and rocked out the dance floor all night. Great wedding K+J. Thank you for letting us be a part of it!
Kathryn and Javier (Oct 13, Oatlands Plantation wedding, Leesburg, VA)
Great weather, great attendees, great bride and groom. What more can we say about Rob and Sara’s wedding? The ceremony and reception were held at Riverbend Country Club, just outside of Washington, D.C. on a fantastic autumn evening. We got an opportunity to use some external flash and lighting techniques with the bridal party and bridal portraits that were so much fun. Rob and Sara, thanks for trudging around the golf course at night with us. We love you both and not just because you are so photogenic… but it does make us love you a little bit more. Just kidding. Maybe.
On September 9th, 2012, somewhere in between summer and fall, Luke and Rebecca were blessed with an incredibly beautiful day to join together in holy matrimony. We were lucky enough to photograph this great event, a particularly special day for us as friends of the bride and groom. After getting-ready photos, we captured a special “sneak peek” moment between Luke and Rebecca just before the ceremony. Afterwards, photos were taken of the bride and groom and their families and friends outside the Villanova Conference Center, the reception venue near Philadelphia, PA. Luke and Rebecca, thank you so much for being totally chill and such an incredibly gracious couple in allowing us to photograph your special day!
In addition to the option of staying at the Lodge at Meadow Lane, they offer several fully equipped rental cottages scattered throughout the property. Below are photos of their rental units. The last one, the Jackson Cottage, is specifically for fly fishing guides.

Nick introduced me to Meadow Lane shortly after we got married in 2010. He had stayed there with his family while in college and fell in love with the place. Not only was it an oasis outside of DC, but I couldn’t get over the beauty of the river and grounds. It probably helped that I kept crushing fish, and ended up catching the big fish of the trip. Sorry Nick! …wait, no I’m not! 🙂
So again, we were thrilled to be asked to take photos of the Jackson River & guests fly fishing.
And yes, you caught us ~ we did do a little fishing during our photo shoot at Meadow Lane. 🙂

Last Spring, Nick and I were hired by Meadow Lane Lodge & Natural Retreats for a hospitality shoot down in Warm Springs, VA. We couldn’t have been more excited. Not only is Meadow Lane one of our favorite vacation spots, but the shoot involved everything we love about photography: fly fishing, people, landscapes, and architecture. This couldn’t have been any more tailor made. Below you’ll find some of our favorite images from the weekend. I have to warn you though, this is just the first of 3 posts. Not only were we hired to photograph the grounds at Meadow Lane, but the exteriors for each of their rental cottages, the exterior and interior of their guiding cottage, their 2.5 mile private stretch of the Jackson River (stocked with large rainbow, brown and steelhead trout), and another 2 mile stretch of the Jackson River in Warm Springs.
Now ladies, if you aren’t into fly fishing don’t let that discourage you from visiting Meadow Lane. Staying at the Lodge is the way to go. The Lodge has 5 bedrooms, all with private bathrooms. In addition to the breakfast offered, there’s a full kitchen to use (minus an oven), a pool, tennis court, barnyard for the children, and some of the coziest rooms around (think fireplace, screened porch, living room, separate entrance, deck, etc.). Within a couple of miles of Meadow Lane there is a really cute wine and cheese shop (Milk House Market) and a fantastic/romantic restaurant to grab dinner in Warm Springs (Waterwheel Restaurant). They even let you down in the cellar to choose whatever wine you’d like for dinner (!).
So, go grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and see why we fell in love with Meadow Lane.
