Kimberly & Dan’s National Park Wedding // Washington, DC
This wedding was so unique and special. As photographers, we appreciated getting so much time with the bride/groom & wedding party for the photos. Thank you Kimberly & Dan! Below is a write up about the wedding from the bride ~ I think she explains the day perfectly. Enjoy!
I didn’t want a lot to be traditional when planning my wedding because when it came to the five years leading up to the proposal, not much was ordinary. We met on match.com and had one date at Nats Park in Washington, DC before my future husband, a Marine, threw our relationship a curveball and got orders to Japan. Phone calls and Skype were our dates over the following few years before he returned to the States. Daniel proposed in the summer of 2012 and then deployed to Afghanistan leaving me with wedding plans as the perfect pastime while he was away.
The unforgettable day was punctuated by national landmarks, historic sites and our field of dreams. Our family and friends watched the wedding and felt as if they’d dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories were so thick, they had to brush them away from their faces. Taking photos around the monuments of the nation’s capital it was as if a rock band’s tour bus pulled up in front of admiring fans. As our bridal party, my groom and I got off the shuttle bus at various scenic locations for pictures, hundreds of complete strangers started taking photos of us. It was a true paparazzi moment. Some people even went to the extreme to ask our photographers to get in the photos with us! On Pennsylvania Avenue, our pose was reminiscent of an old Life Magazine cover.
Our celebration began at a base and continued at home plate. The ceremony was held at a little white chapel on Bolling Air Force base. Honoring the groom’s Irish heritage, a bagpiper provided the music as our wedding party walked the aisle and took their positions. Following an upbeat and spirited ceremony, the crowd went wild as we exited to the Marine Corps hymn under a saber arch. The wedding party (and guests) climbed aboard the team buses and headed to the stadium.
Deciding to have our reception at Nats Park was a fastball right down the middle. Reflecting back on the first date back in our rookie season, the wedding would be just like going home. Unique, fun, and not what you think when it comes to a wedding – a perfect triple play, exactly what I wanted. The food was delicious – hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, bbq, soft pretzels, popcorn and peanuts. Cocktail hour was hosted in the dugout and batting cages (with actual Nationals players throwing out pitches). Amazingly, my mom and I kept it a secret under our caps for a year and half so it could be a surprise for all the guests – especially my brother, a die-hard Nats fan. As we walked down to the field, he said “Kim, I literally have goosebumps all over my body” – that statement was worth the extra fee and the stress of keeping an 18 month secret. Seeing guests in suits and dresses taking batting practice, laughing and truly enjoying themselves was among my favorite memories of the day.
With the reception at the stadium, the view of the field was better than any decoration we could’ve added. To add a few personal touches, we asked our guests to autograph, errr sign a Nats jersey with the number 13 and our last name on the back. The wedding party was introduced with the enthusiasm of a professional sports starting lineup. The cake, sweetheart, jersey and cupcake table were all dressed in handmade table runners. In lieu of favors, we made a donation to the Semper Fi Fund, in honor of my husband’s service to the Marine Corps.
The day was simply a home run.

Jonathan & Laura’s Volt Restaurant Wedding // Frederick, MD
Jonathan & Laura are married! The event took place at Bryan Voltaggio’s restaurant, Volt, in Frederick, MD. The wedding was beautiful, modern, and chic – a photographers dream! You could tell Jonathan & Laura really thought through the details of their wedding. They hired En Masse Flowers to create these super stylish canvases with fresh flowers that hung on the walls at Volt. I’ve never seen anything quite like them. The floral arrangements were breathtaking — a work of art. Since the morning of the wedding was windy and cold, Laura & Jonathan decided to have their ceremony inside a heated tent in Volt’s courtyard. Laura had already planned the possibility of this happening and had these gorgeous red and orange amaryllis blossoms suspended on branches inside the tent — right above where they stood to exchange their vows!
The venue was more than a location. Volt’s food and staff were phenomenal. The food was as gourmet as it was picturesque. The plating and presentation was extraordinary. Jonathan’s band Detached Retina played at the reception — and Jonathan even joined the band for a few songs on the drums. We are so thrilled for Jonathan & Laura. Congratulations to you both!

Sneak Peek: Kimberly & Dan’s National Park Wedding
We’ve been looking forward to Kimberly and Dan’s wedding all year long and it did not disappoint. A beautiful couple; fun family and friends; Marines in their dress blues and swords; photos around Washington, D.C., the National Mall, and the Yards Park; and the grand finale, a reception at the Nationals Stadium. ‘Merica!!
Crystal & Brandon’s Fall Roosevelt Island Engagement Session
One thing I love about photography is the opportunity to meet new people. We met Brandon & Crystal through a fellow fly fishing enthusiast Rob Snowhite earlier this year. Brandon & Crystal love the outdoors. They fly fish, hunt, camp, hike…they pretty much do it all. When we started talking about places to take their engagement photos we wanted to make sure the photos displayed their love for the outdoors. Roosevelt Island in Washington, D.C. provided the perfect combination of nature and urban settings for Brandon & Crystal.
We are looking forward to their wedding next fall, which will be held at Rose River Farm in Syria, VA. Rose River Farm is not just a pretty face — it’s also home to the annual Project Healing Waters/Casting For Recovery 2 Fly events. We had the privilege to photograph of a few of those events in past years at Rose River and can see why Brandon & Crystal chose it as their wedding location.

Jason & Jackie // River Creek Country Club Wedding // Leesburg, VA
Jason & Jackie are married!
We spent the day with Jason and Jackie at the River Creek Country Club in Leesburg, VA. It was a gorgeous setting for a wedding and we lucked out with some pretty spectacular weather. Jason and Jackie were so fun to work with and so relaxed! You know when you meet someone and you can just tell you could be friends with them? Well, that’s how we felt when we met Jason and Jackie. The one thing I loved the most about spending the day with them was being able to see their love. It was incredible. Jason & Jackie, we wish you all the best for the future and congratulations again on your big day!
A special thanks to Bruce for helping me photograph this wedding!

Chris & Alyssa // Meadowlark Botanical Gardens Engagement Session // Vienna, VA
I was so excited to photograph this couple. However, with the crazy (rainy) weather in DC we ended up having to postpone and reschedule more times than I can count. Luckily we ended up with a gorgeous September evening for photographs. Chris & Allyssa, we cannot wait for your wedding in May! Congrats again to you both.
